What is a Dental Crown?

When damage to your tooth is extreme, or beyond the point of fixing the problem with a simple filling, we can use crowns to strengthen the tooth and make it look “as new”. This is an extremely reliable technique for repairing the most severe of dental problems, even permanently replacing (in conjunction with dental implants) missing teeth to offer a complete smile and a functional bite. We are renowned for the quality of our work and the fantastic changes we make for people using this technology. These treatments are used for a long-lasting correction of major dental problems.

Key Benefits of Same Day Dental Crowns

Same-day dental crowns eliminate the need for you to wear a temporary crown for weeks and having to return for a second visit. This means that you do not need to get numb (think injections) again just to have your permanent crown delivered. Traditionally, dental offices had to take a mouth full of impressions from your teeth, send it off to a dental lab, and wait a few weeks for it to be made. Many times patients develop pain and sensitivity while they wore a temporary crown. Labs sometimes made the wrong color crown, or a lot of adjustment was needed to be able to fit the permanent one. Sometimes the permanent crown had to be sent back to be remade and patients had to go through this again in a couple of weeks!

In addition, temporary crowns often look unaesthetic. They break and come loose very easily and cause a whole range of issues just in the short time it took the lab to make you a crown. Thankfully we have invested in CEREC technology to bring you the best treatment option and the highest quality of care. Dr. Patel attends numerous Continuing Education courses and seminars to keep his skills up to date using the latest and best technology. You can even watch your crown being made in front of you if you want. It is very similar to a 3D printer.

How Are CEREC Crowns Different Than Lab Crowns?

Great question. Virtually the CEREC (same day) crowns are made from the exact same material that a dental lab uses to make crowns. Because we order our material from the same company as almost all prominent national dental labs do, we can make sure that the strength and durability of our in-office crowns are exactly the same as the crowns made in a dental lab (or even better).

CEREC Same Day Crown

When we make your crown, Dr. Patel makes sure the crown gets a good seal around the margins and the anatomy looks similar to other teeth. Then he customizes your crown size and color for your mouth and your bite. Often times when crowns are made in a lab, the lab has to guess all this information (without ever seeing the patient) only from the impression material that the dentist sends in. This often leads to labs guessing the wrong margins, wrong bite or shade/color for the crowned tooth. We are among the few dental offices in Charlotte to be able to provide you with the state of the art technology of CEREC Same Day Crown.

Special Request Crowns

While we make majority of our crowns in our office, we also work with top cosmetic labs (local and national) to accommodate special requests for our patients. Examples include patient with allergies to certain material, ultra-complex shade matching or patient’s preference in certain color or material like white or yellow gold.
